My time with the Record Journal was the start of my professional career. Prior to this internship, my only experience was in the form of student media. While this position was only one day per week, it allowed me to work with professionals and learn about the day-to-day life of a journalist.

Each week when I drove up to Meriden from Hamden, I knew I would be writing a story that would be featured online and in the newspaper the following day. Most of my time was spent in the newsroom making calls for my stories, but I was also sent into the field to get photos and talk to locals for certain stories.

It wasn’t much, but this is where I got my start – and I take pride in that.

WALLINGFORD — Lucky’s Sports Cards & Memorabilia, a shop selling authentic autographed sports items, opened this weekend.

Located at 600 N. Colony Road, the shop features signed cards, jerseys, framed photos and other sports items. Lucky’s has been selling its items on eBay and at card shows in the tri-state area since 2016.

The store, which opened Saturday, is owned by Vincent Balisky, a New York native, who runs the business with the help of his partner Ed Grasso and his girlfriend Krystal Idzinski. Balisky had sold cards and memorabilia for 12 years before starting Lucky’s in 2016.

“We have a wide selection of sports cards (in boxes), single (cards) and we’re doing memorabilia as well, framed and unframed,” Balisky said.
