My time with the Record Journal was the start of my professional career. Prior to this internship, my only experience was in the form of student media. While this position was only one day per week, it allowed me to work with professionals and learn about the day-to-day life of a journalist.

Each week when I drove up to Meriden from Hamden, I knew I would be writing a story that would be featured online and in the newspaper the following day. Most of my time was spent in the newsroom making calls for my stories, but I was also sent into the field to get photos and talk to locals for certain stories.

It wasn’t much, but this is where I got my start – and I take pride in that.

“Catching distracted drivers is hard, because it’s not only about cell phones, but any distractions in the car,” said Wallingford Police Lt. Cheryl Bradley. “Texting tends to be more difficult to catch because drivers hold the phone on their laps. People using cellphones on calls and texting is still a serious issue, that’s why we’ve participated.”
