My time with the Record Journal was the start of my professional career. Prior to this internship, my only experience was in the form of student media. While this position was only one day per week, it allowed me to work with professionals and learn about the day-to-day life of a journalist.

Each week when I drove up to Meriden from Hamden, I knew I would be writing a story that would be featured online and in the newspaper the following day. Most of my time was spent in the newsroom making calls for my stories, but I was also sent into the field to get photos and talk to locals for certain stories.

It wasn’t much, but this is where I got my start – and I take pride in that.

DURHAM — After a long winter, the Durham Dari Serv has reopened.

The ice cream parlor, located at 13 Main St., serves both hard and soft serve ice cream and will now be open daily from noon to 9 p.m. until Columbus Day weekend. Once school lets out for the summer, hours will be extended.

“We’re very excited,” Dari Serv assistant manager Tessa Thomas said. “It’s always a great time of year. It’s spring now so everybody is itching for us to open back up.”
